Fruit & Vegetable

In the fruit and vegetable industry, the plants are larger and are typically housed longer than other operations. With the main goal instead of vegetative growth being a secondary product (a vegetable or fruit), an operation needs to be prepared for longer growing seasons.

A commercial operation will need to have in place materials and equipment ideal for all stages of growth for the entire growing season from lighting, heating and cooling, HVAC, media, pathogen control, and other factors depending on the crop being grown and its individual needs. Plants grown in this set up are typically larger and require more space as well as additional upgrades to growing environments like light heights, water increases and descreases, and root housing size.

Additional considerations to space and overall season goals should be considered in the selection of products and other materials as well. Proper planning and an incorporation of an IPM plan needs to also be in place for fast and methodical control of pathogens. From the production and care of plants, shrubs, and trees, the fruit and vegetable production industry requires a close attention to detail.
